Project Management

Good project management is essential for any well run web site. It's even more significant in the HyperText Studio where the same project can be used to generate 4 different types of hypertext applications.

When you start a new project the HyperText Studio prompts you for a name - this creates the .hts project file which is a database record of all the component files. As you add topics, style sheets and images, the database keeps track of all the file names and the paths between them. When you build the project a new folder is created in your project directory and all the files are generated in the correct locations.

Project Manager - Site view The Site Tab of the Project Manager lists all topics, images, style sheets and directories in the web site.

As the site is developed more and more files will be added. The view on the left is typical - with images, .htm topic and .css styles all in the same folder it's soon necessary scroll down the list to find an item.

Reorganization can be arranged very quickly. In this case we inserted extra folders for Images and Styles and dragged the different file types into them. The result (right) is much neater and easier to manage

Internal links are preserved correctly even when files and images are moved to different folders - the paths in the source code are changed automatically and the new site structure is generated with the Build button.

Project Manager - ContentsThe Contents Tab of the Project Manager window displays the structure of topics as they appear in the navigation pane of the HTML Help browser.

The Order of Topics is important when designing HTML Help systems because users can see a Contents list of all the topics in the single file. Autosync highlights the current topic so it's easy to see the your position in the overall application.

You can rearrange the running order of topics in the Contents view. The position of each topic can be moved up or down.

Topics can be promoted to a 'parent' topic (left arrow) to form a chapter heading indicated by the book symbol

Topics can be demoted to a 'child' topic (right arrow).
